7 Ways to Forever Banish Looking Tired

Work, holiday parties, and christmas shopping got you tired. Below the redhead discusses some ideas she picked up from Glamour Magazine to banish looking tired!

Try a Little Eyeliner Magic

New York City–based makeup artist Laura Mercier perks up models at early-morning photo shoots by rimming their inner, upper lash lines with navy. “It make the whites of their eyes seem brighter,” she says. White is the liner color of choice for singer Katy Perry, 24, who’s learned it’s not easy to get shut-eye when you’re promoting a hit album (One of the Boys) and spending nights on a tour bus. She swipes it onto her inner, lower lids. The white helps offset redness, she says; “catnaps help too.

Do a Ponytail Face-Lift

Pulling your hair into a high, tight one literally gives your face a little lift, so you look refreshed, says Paris-based runway hairstylist Odile Gilbert.

Caffeinate Your Eyes

Leigh Lezark, 24, globe-trotting deejay for the Misshapes, has a special A.M. ritual when she’s worked till dawn: She dips cotton pads in brewed espresso and presses them beneath her eyes. “It eliminates all the darkness and puff,” she says. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, so it shrinks blood vessels and minimizes dark circles. Its diuretic effect also helps reduce swelling, which is why it’s so popular in eye creams.

Take a Cold (and Hot) Shower

Alternating blasts revive Jayne Sandman, 29, associate publisher of Capitol File magazine, when she’s done the D.C. party circuit five nights in a row. Says Dr. Fusco, who recommends this to overworked patients: “The temperature change revs circulation and brings back color—it’s like CPR for the skin.”

Rub on an Ice Cube

Dancing With the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff, 30, spikes ice-cube trays with her Russian mom’s special cocktail (not vodka!) to prep for sunrise rehearsals. She just adds a drop of lemon juice and olive oil to each square, and later runs a frozen cube over her face. The cold reduces swelling, the lemon’s citric acid tightens and the olive oil adds moisture.

Spoon!

When she’s been working nonstop, Kate Somerville, 38, founder of a skin-care line, chills teaspoons in the hotel-room mini fridge and rests them on her eyes: “It reduces puffiness and redness.”

Banish Dark Circles

One mistake women often make: “They miss the shady spot at the inner corner of the eye,” says Matthew Nigara, an NYC makeup pro. A dab of highlighter there brightens the whole area.

1. Lightly press a cold metal surface against the puffy part of your eyes for about 60 seconds this works best when using a using a metal spoon that has been soaked in ice water.

3. Eyes that are sore, tired and puffy can also be rejuvenated with thin cucumber slices kept fresh in cold water and placed over the closed eyes as a compress (yes I know it sounds pre-Madonna but even that's okay once in a while).

4. Tea is a great way to remove puffiness as well. Make sure two tea bags are thoroughly wetted with cold water and then place them on your eyes for about 10 minutes. You can press from the inner to the outer corner of the eye if you choose. Although tea with caffeine causes the blood vessels to constrict thereby reducing the swelling you can use any type of tea as teas are full of antioxidants.

5. Excess salt causes your body to hold fluids, so you need to stay away salty foods period - no good can come from them.

1. Take a metal spoon and run it under cold water. Place the metal on the puffy area for at least 60 seconds.

2. Apply hemorrhoid cream (look for brands that contain ingredients of yeast and shark's liver oil) to the puffy area. Insiders have known for years that in just the way it gets the swelling out of that other area, it works the same way for the face. For similar beauty tips, come see us at

3. Thin cucumber slices used as compresses over closed eyes will relieve sore, puffy eyes.

4. A black tea bag soaked in cold water on each eye for ten minutes will reduce swelling caused by fluid retention. Gently press from inner to outer corners to hasten drainage. Moistened caffeine tea bags will also work the same way by reducing puffiness because caffeine constricts blood vessels and reduces swelling.

5. Avoid salty foods, which cause the under eye area (and the rest of your body) to hold fluid.

6. Elevate your head when you sleep, to keep fluid from settling around your eyes and keep swelling down. For similar beauty tips, come see us at RedHeadedTrip.com

7. A few egg whites, stiffly beaten, and applied with a brush to the face and under the eyes will make the skin feel tighter and look less puffy. Add a drop or two of witch hazel which also reduces swelling and will keep the egg whites from drying to rapidly.

8. Making sure you are drinking enough water will also reduce eye puffiness. When a person is dehydrated the body starts storing water as a defense system and this will add to puffiness around the eyes.

9. Contact lenses should be removed before going to bed, to avoid puffiness caused by lens irritation and drying.

10. Rinse your face in cold water when you wake up or when puffy eyes attack anytime of the day to constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling. This is a great energizer.
